CONNOR HIBBS HURLS NO-HITTER VS COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND

CCBC Catonsville right hander Connor Hibbs (Arundel High School) pitched the sixth no-hitter in team history on Saturday in a 10-0 win over the College of Southern Maryland. Hibbs’ five inning gem included only one base runner (who reached on an error). Hibbs faced the minimum of 15 batters in the game. Hibbs had no walks and struck out seven, including fanning the side in order in the 4th inning. He allowed only one ball out of the infield in the game. Kyle Porter led the offensive attack for Catonsville with 2 doubles in 2 official at bats, with 3 RBIs. Tyler Wood and Kyle Laplant added two hits each.

Audrey Gerlach is named Maryland JUCO Athlete of the Month for October

CCBC Catonsville Women’s Volleyball student athlete Audrey Gerlach has been named Maryland JUCO Volleyball Athlete of the Month for October.
Audrey finished the season #1 in hitting efficiency for the MD JUCO with 42% and totaled 205 kills for the season. She also ranked seventh in MD JUCO in kills per set at 2.6, and recorded 145 digs. CCBC Catonsville went 8-8 for the month of October. This award adds to her long list of honors for her CCBC Catonsville career including 1st team All Region XX in 2010 + 2011, All Tournament Team at Hagerstown Invitational n 2010 + 2011, All Maryland JUCO team, and she was also named NJCAA Athlete of the Week this fall.

Former CCBC Catonsville Guard, Jonte "Too Tall" Hall, joins the Harlem Globetrotters

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. – Former CCBC Catonsville Men’s Basketball Player Jonte Hall has been named as one of ten members of the Harlem Globetrotters 2012 rookie class. A Baltimore native, Hall is a graduate of Carver Vocational High School and was a member of the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 2001-2002 team.
He joins what could be the most electrifying and talented team in the history of the Globetrotter franchise. It could even rival the class of 1962, which featured Globetrotter legends Curly Neal, Smokey Gaines, and Jackie Jackson, and the class of 1977that boasted legends Sweet Lou Dunbar and Billy Ray Hobley.
“The Globetrotters are excited to welcome a new generation of stars to carry on the storied tradition of the world’s most exciting basketball team, “ said Globetrotter CEO Kurt Schneider. “This year’s rookie class features some of the most talented and promising players across the world.”
When Jonte “Too Tall” Hall steps on the floor, he will become the shortest player in Globetrotter history at 5’2”. Hall joins the Globetrotters after one-and-a-half seasons with the rival Washington Generals.
In addition to being a former CCBC Catonsville student athlete, Jonte has also been a Camp Heritage Senior Counselor for the past 9 years. The Globetrotters will be making a Baltimore appearance at the 1st Mariner Arena on Dec. 30, 2011.

Audrey Gerlach is named NJCAA Volleyball Player fo the Week

CCBC Catonsville student athlete Audrey Gerlach named National Player of the Week
CCBC Catonsville Volleyball student-athlete Audrey Gerlach, a sophomore Middle Hitter from Reisterstown, Md. (Franklin HS), has been named NJCAA Player of the Week. She is coming off an outstanding week during which she averaged 3.85 kills and 2.8 digs per set in leading the Lady Cardinals to a 5-1 record. Gerlach is currently leading the Maryland JUCO in hitting efficiency at 50%, a number that also ranks her #4 nationally.
This honor adds to Gerlach’s list of accomplishments which includes being named to the Hagerstown Community College New Horizon Tracy Leather Memorial All-Tournament Team in both 2010 and 2011, while also being named 1st Team All Maryland JUCO and 1st Team All Region XX in 2010.

Former CCBC Catonsville Student Athletes Sign Professional Contracts

Two former members of the CCBC Catonsville Baseball team have recently signed professional contracts. Jim Moran (University of South Florida), a member of the 2009 team, was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round of the 2011 amateur draft and is currently playing with the Reds affiliate in the Arizona League. Nick Cicio (University of Central Florida), a member of the CCBC Catonsville team in 2008-2009 and a 1st team All Maryland JUCO member in 2009, was signed to a free agent contract by the Minnesota Twins. Cicio is currently playing with the Twins affiliate in the Gulf Coast League.
