College News
Ranger Soccer teams complete historic seasons.
October 27, 2011

Both the men's and women's soccer teams for Ranger College have now completed their 2011 campaigns, and while both fell during Region 5 tournament play, it is undeniable that the programs made a large leap forward this season and both teams put together what can be argued were the best seasons in the history of each respective program. Both teams lay claim to this distinction based on records broken and historic milestones reached.

The 2011 Lady Rangers, who were 0-16 in 2010, recorded the first winning season in program history, finishing 8-6 in the regular season and 8-7 overall after their playoff loss. They also broke records for number of wins in a season, number of wins in region play (2, including the first ever), highest number of goals scored in a season, and lowest number of goals allowed in a season.

The 2011 Men nearly doubled their number of on the field wins from 2010 (4) when they recorded the 2nd highest number of wins ever in a season with 7. They also earned the program's first ever win in Region 5 tournament play, and their first ever appearance in a regional championship game.

First year Rangers Head Coach Jaime Beltran, whose leadership, recruiting, and coaching played a big role in the two programs' huge turnaround for the better had this to say about the teams and the successful seasons: "Both the men and women worked incredibly hard to accomplish their success. I am grateful that our sophomores believed in the new program when we met back in March and chose to return, and grateful that our freshmen believed in the building process that I spoke to them about while recruiting for this season. I am incredibly proud of what our players have accomplished this year, but like we all said after our final games of the season - we are still hungry and we want to go even further next season."

If the players and coaches in the two programs work as hard to make the next jump in quality as they did for this season, Coach Beltran and the returning players may just get their wish and be able to satisfy that hunger for more success.
