Scott Hyland Named Women's Basketball Coach
June 5, 2012

Hill College aims to continue a tradition of excellence with the recent hiring of Scott Hyland as the new head coach for the women's basketball program. Hyland brings nine years of head coaching experience with him and extensive knowledge of recruiting in Texas.

"I am very excited about the challenge that is in front of us, and I am confident that we can build something special here at Hill College," Hyland said. "I have had the opportunity to build programs elsewhere, and I believe this situation is as good as any one I have taken over before."

From 2007-11, Hyland was the head coach for Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville where he went 44-64, including two winning seasons, and being named Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year for the 2008-09 season. The 18 wins by the 2009-10 team were the most by the program since a 27-7 mark in 2000-01. It was only the fifth time the program had ever reached 18 total wins for a season.

Prior to Kingsville, Hyland posted an 80-72 record at Paris Junior College where he remains the most successful coach in the history of the program. Two of the three 20-win seasons in that program came under Hyland, 20-12 in 2002-03 and 21-10 in 2005-06.

"There is a very good foundation here already to build up," Hyland said. "We are going to put together the right kind of people, and we are going to play an exciting style of basketball that will win games. However, we also want to develop our student-athletes and help them move on to achieve their dreams."

Lady Rebels 8-0 After Defeating Panola 81-44
November 16, 2011

The Hill College Lady Rebels defeated Panola College 81-44 Tuesday night at the Bob Bullock Sports Center. The win improves the Lady Rebels' record to 8-0 on the season.

The Lady Rebels started the game off fast by opening up a 25-2 lead with 10:27 left in the first half. The Fillies were able to convert a few scoring opportunities, but Hill still led 46-16 at halftime. The Lady Rebels were forced into more turnovers in the second half that led to Panola scores, but Hill still won the half and the game, 81-44.

The Lady Rebels were led by sophomore Kelsie Dutton who had 17 points. Sophomore Aron Garcia contributed 15 points, sophomore Shamonte Lanfair added 13 points, and freshman Kayla Jackson chipped in 11 points.

"Anytime you hold a team to 44 points that is averaging 78 points a game, you're playing hard," said Head Coach Aaron Kallhoff.

The next home game for the Lady Rebels is Fri., Dec. 2, against Australian Select. For more information on the Hill College basketball teams, visit www.hillcollege.edu/athletics.
