Onondaga pitchers combine for no hitter
March 21, 2014

Onondaga freshman starting pitcher Jacob Shortslef (Hannibal HS) threw 6 innings of shutout baseball on no hits vs D2 Wake Tech in NC on Thursday in a 5-0 win. Shortslef who made his first start of the year was replaced by Tanner Whiteman (Cazenovia HS) in the 7th who also gave up no hits in the inning to complete the combined no hitter. 



Onondaga Community College Men's Basketball among NJCAA All-Academic Teams for 2012-2013

SYRACUSE, NY. – June 18, 2013 – The 2012-2013 Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team has been recognized as one of the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Teams for the 2012-2013 academic year.  The Lazers posted a 3.02 composite grade point average, and were the only Onondaga team to earn the distinction.  Onondaga was also one of only 8 men’s basketball teams nationally, out of 444 that compete at the junior college level, and the only men’s basketball team within Region 3 of the NJCAA, to be named an All-Academic Team.

Onondaga sophomores Garrett Sisson (Schenectady Mohonasen) and Ryan Gavin (Nedrow Onondaga) were also recognized by the NJCAA for their individual academic accomplishments.  Both players received the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement (previously known as NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American).  Sisson, a Humanities major, earned a 3.86 grade point average, and will continue his education and basketball career at St. John Fisher College.  Gavin, a Business Administration major, earned a 3.80 gpa, and will continue his education and basketball career at Cazenovia College.  Both student athletes had been recognized earlier this spring by receiving the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Scholar Athlete Award.

Sisson and Gavin are among 8 Onondaga student athletes to be recognized by the NJCAA.  Soccer and softball player Sophie-Louise Jackson (Marcellus) received the NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence.  Cross Country runner Jessica Emanuelli (Camillus West Genesee), basketball player Jenna Johnson (Tully), lacrosse player Lincoln Liesemeyer (Honolulu, HI Punahou), and soccer player Krystal Tyrrell (Syracuse Faith Heritage joined Sisson and Gavin in receiving the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement.  Cross Country runner Joanna Armstrong (Fayetteville-Manlius) received the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement.

The Onondaga men’s basketball team finished 15-14 in 2012-2013 and extended their string of 13 consecutive post-season appearances.  Onondaga will open the 2013-2014 season on November 2nd and 3rd, when they host the 2013 Onondaga Community College Classic.

Mathers to Attend D2 Lemoyne College
June 28, 2013

After helping to lead Onondaga baseball to 79 wins over the last two years,  CF Jeremy Mathers (Henninger HS)  has verbally committed to D2 Lemoyne College. 
Jeremy was a standout CF in his two seasons at Onondaga, named to the all MSAC team in 2013 as well as the All-Region 3 team.  
Jeremy plans to pursue a business degree while he continues his college baseball career.  


All Region 3 baseball team announced

Three members of the Onondaga basebal team were named to the All Region 3 team. 

RHP Eric Spencer, C Ronn Bidwell and OF Jeremy Mathers were all selected.  Each played significant roles in bringing Onondaga its best (2012) and  2nd best win total in Onondaga history.  



Jeremy Mathers named to All MSAC team
May 10, 2013

Sphomore Jeremy Mathers (Henninger) has been named to the All Mid State Athletic Conference team.

In 2013 Jeremny has hit .345 vs Region 3 opponents. Overall during the season Mathers has compiled 6 2b's ,3 3b's and a HR to go along with 15 RBI's out of the leadoff spot.  

Most impressively for Mathers is that for 2 years at Onondaga he has been considered arguably the best defensive CF in the Region.
