Mission: To provide an opportunity for student participation in competitive athletics in an environment that fosters academic and athletic success. Men’s athletics offers participation for about 200 athletes in eight sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track. Supporting the competitive athletic programs are the strength and conditioning department and the sports medicine department. Scottsdale Community College competes as a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Art Becker has been the Director of Athletics for 25 years and is responsible for the operation of the department. He has been active as an officer in the ACCAC having served as President, Secretary and Treasurer (current). Mr. Becker has been active in the National Junior College Athletic Association serving as Director for Region I and Vice-President for Men. He is currently serving the NJCAA as its President; an office he will hold until 2011.
The Assistant Director of Athletics, Ed Yeager, is responsible for monitoring academic success, study halls, grade checks and initial eligibility screening. In addition to the Director and Assistant Director, the Department is comprised of the head and assistant coaches of the eight sports. The department is supported by the athletic secretary, equipment manager, and athletic trainers.
