New River Community College Spirit Mark Changed to the Muskies!
June 13, 2014
In the Spring 2014 semester, the college administration authorized a change for the spirit mark of the athletics program. This was part of a larger rebranding effort led by a college appointed rebranding committee. After careful consideration of a variety of suggestions from students, employees, and the community, the committee proposed to change from the "Knight" to the "Muskie." A "muskie "is a simpler term used for the Muskellunge fish, which is associated with a fighting spirit often discovered in this area species.
The spirit mark change is the latest move by the college to update it's brand. A change in the colors used by athletics occurred last spring, 2013, from green, black, grey, and white to dark red, royal blue, and medium grey. The spirit mark is associated solely with our athletics program, but the colors are now used throughout college departments and images.
