Howard Baseball Hosts 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game

Jack Barber Field on the campus of Howard College in Big Spring, Texas was covered in pink on Saturday, May 2nd for the HC Hawks 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game featuring the #1 nationally ranked Howard College Hawks vs. Frank Phillips Plainsmen. The event raised a record breaking $3,066 to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

The field merely set the stage for the Hawks to raise money and recognition for the cause. Bearclaw Knives raffled off a "pink" block and knife set, baseballs and caps autographed by the 2009 HC Hawk Baseball Team team and a silent auction was held for two specially designed "pink" bats autographed by the team. HC Baseball "pink" t-shirts and caps were on-sale with proceeds from all sales and raffles donated to the cause.

Pre-game activities included the "first pitch" ceremony honoring individuals who have personal stories in dealing with breast cancer either through their own lives or that of a loved one.
