BJ Graber Award
Heidi Brooks Chosen as 2004 Betty Jo Graber Award Winner

The 2004 NJCAA Betty Jo Graber Female Student Athlete of the Year was sophomore basketball and softball standout Heidi Brooks of Corning Community College in Corning, N.Y.

A two-sport All-American and Academic All-American, Brooks exemplifies the meaning of student-athlete.  While at Corning she received the following honors:

  • Softball All-American Selection (2003 and 20004)
  • Basketball All-American Selection (2004)
  • Region III Softball Player of the Year (2004)
  • State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence
  • NJCAA Academic All-American Selection (basketball and softball)
  • Dean's list all four semesters of attendance
  • Two-Time Corning Community College Athlete of the Year (2003 and 2004)

A native of Painted Post (N.Y.), Brooks also left her mark in the Corning Community College and national record books with the following accomplishments:

  • Second Corning athlete to be an All-American in two sports
  • Starting pitcher for softball team that finished second last season
  • Finished second in the nation with 22.4 points per game (2004)
  • Led the nation with a .49 ERA (2004)
  • Holds 17 school records (10 in softball, seven in basketball)

Brooks, a mathematics and sciences major with a 3.63 GPA, received a full academic scholarship to Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. where she will played softball.
